Reviews: The Caddy Shack

Caddy Shack Square

The Caddy Shack Square is located right in downtown and I think is one of the biggest commercial property in the island.

The founder started this commercial square with one vision: see the whole family having fun, from the little ones up to those not too little anymore.

The owner is almost retired, but he always is keeping an eye on the property. At the beginning it was here The Caddy Shack pizza place, which still running today.

The Caddy Shack become a popular bar, today at the roof read the Buckeye Bar. They serve pizzas, (the white pizza is my favorite), subs, (you have to try the Italian) and they also run special almost every day from hot dogs to paella.

To keep the kids busy they build 18 holes mini golf, then Karaoke in the bar, etc. Today they offer golf cart and bike to rent which is the best way to go around Kelleys Island. They also have the Whacky Shack where the little ones have a lot of fun. I am quite sure I can stop at any kinder garden 2 hour driving distance from here and ask to the children: Where is the Whacky Shack? All of them would scream at the Caddy Shack.

Dipper Dan’s Ice Cream is another big attraction for the kids, is their refreshment after doing the “18-hole”. The shops, I am not going to say that is the entrainment for the girls, while the boy watch the game at the Caddy Shack’s bar, because at the Beach Rack you would find Hawaiians’ shirt and Native sunglass for the boys.

Ok the Flip Flop shop we can say is for the girls, yes it is for girls. The good news, in my case next door is Erie Island Coffee Co. great lattes.

Keeping the legacy of the owner, his daughter is the founder of the Whacky Shack and another symbol of this island the Booga Wear.

The Booga Wear sales Booga t-shirts, I bet that in Kelleys Island people buy more Booga T-shirt than souvenirs. Booga represent the “booga people” the whole philosophy behind those t-shirt is to be relax and enjoy life in the simple ways possible.

Visit the the Booga website and read the history of the “booga people” to not only understand this philosophy but to understand the whole concept of Caddy Shack Square.

The legacy of The Caddy Shack Square is going to continue for many generations on Kelleys Island.

I am really happy that I have the opportunity to spend some of my time with the Caddy Shack’s family.
