Reviews: The Caddy Shack

Caddy Shack Square

The Caddy Shack Square is located right in downtown and I think is one of the biggest commercial property in the island.

The founder started this commercial square with one vision: see the whole family having fun, from the little ones up to those not too little anymore.

The owner is almost retired, but he always is keeping an eye on the property. At the beginning it was here The Caddy Shack pizza place, which still running today.

The Caddy Shack become a popular bar, today at the roof read the Buckeye Bar. They serve pizzas, (the white pizza is my favorite), subs, (you have to try the Italian) and they also run special almost every day from hot dogs to paella.

To keep the kids busy they build 18 holes mini golf, then Karaoke in the bar, etc. Today they offer golf cart and bike to rent which is the best way to go around Kelleys Island. They also have the Whacky Shack where the little ones have a lot of fun. I am quite sure I can stop at any kinder garden 2 hour driving distance from here and ask to the children: Where is the Whacky Shack? All of them would scream at the Caddy Shack.

Dipper Dan’s Ice Cream is another big attraction for the kids, is their refreshment after doing the “18-hole”. The shops, I am not going to say that is the entrainment for the girls, while the boy watch the game at the Caddy Shack’s bar, because at the Beach Rack you would find Hawaiians’ shirt and Native sunglass for the boys.

Ok the Flip Flop shop we can say is for the girls, yes it is for girls. The good news, in my case next door is Erie Island Coffee Co. great lattes.

Keeping the legacy of the owner, his daughter is the founder of the Whacky Shack and another symbol of this island the Booga Wear.

The Booga Wear sales Booga t-shirts, I bet that in Kelleys Island people buy more Booga T-shirt than souvenirs. Booga represent the “booga people” the whole philosophy behind those t-shirt is to be relax and enjoy life in the simple ways possible.

Visit the the Booga website and read the history of the “booga people” to not only understand this philosophy but to understand the whole concept of Caddy Shack Square.

The legacy of The Caddy Shack Square is going to continue for many generations on Kelleys Island.

I am really happy that I have the opportunity to spend some of my time with the Caddy Shack’s family.

One day in Put in Bay, Ohio

I got invited last Friday to Put in Bay a small island located on the Lake Erie. One of the locals Kelleys Island took me in his boat to the other island.

It was around 6 pm the lake was flat as a pool. The ride was really smooth and took no more than 20 minutes.

After getting into the dock at the Board Walk we walk upstairs to the “Cantina” for a few cold drinks.

For dinner we decided The Goat. It is located in a comfy building. We chose the dinner room, if that the way to call it, but they also have a full bar section and a patio where you can enjoy the good weather of the island.

I got, what the call a beer platter: 4 different types of cheeses, hard salami, black olive, green stuff olive, are you getting the picture, and crackers with a glass of red wine. This type of item should be on every menu on the restaurants.  That’s how we got start it. I can’t tell you how we finish because I don’t remember.

After dinner we went to the captain’s cottage that is the way he call it. We keep testing some more read wine and then we were invited to Level 2, guauu!!1 a new night club that was open that night.

The Level 2 it is a Las Vegas style nightclub, I can’t tell the different because I never been there. The place has a complete full bar, servers at the floor offering drinks, VIPs areas and big security people. It was the firs night and was a lot of fun I am sure is going to be soon one of the top clubs in the area.

Back to the house to sleep to get up at 9 AM to go back to Kelleys Island.

Frustration

The day is over and I still have a lot of work to do. I am tire, hungry and feeling that I didn’t enjoy my day.

Maybe one of my problems is that I didn’t found what I really like to do in life or my “passion”. I have a really clear idea of what I like to do and how I want to do it. I guest we all know that answer. In my case, the things that I like to do are not valuate in this society.

In this industrialize world the only things are valuate are all related to produce more of the same, or find new way to sale more “stuff”.

Any kind of art that can be music, painting, poetry, or even cook is not valuated even though we need them to live and usually and the end of the road those are the only thing we remember.

Spend time with your family or friend in this community. I am sure that is something wrong, but I don’t know what.

People in general should find way to produce in more efficient ways. I agree with that, but if I find the way to produce let say 10 cars in a short period I would still producing 10 cars and use the rest of the time in something else. The system we live in it know produce 20 cars, so know I need to find way to sale those extra cars and make the idea that at 10 years old car is a old car and you should through it in the garbage to get another one.
What I about if I give you the opportunity in your life to buy just one car for all your life, one boat and one airplane and the only thing you can change to experience something different is your holidays.

I heard ones that if you spend just one day in all the beaches in the world that are good for surfing you would spend 15 years going through all of them.
Think how many things are you going to miss when you choose to buy another car instead of taken a trip or maybe now you don’t have

Enjoying life

Today is a little be cold. The island is pretty quite so, I am going to spend all my day in the computer updating the info about my reviews in the area.

I really enjoy so much what I am doing. I wish one day we as a human being realized what matter in life and would give more value at those things.

I don’t know the exactly number but we all know that in America we spend a lot of money in stuff and so little to spend in our vacations.

We have to start voting with all dollars the things we value the most. For those who change their car every year, just hold the car for a while and spend that money with you family taken a trip. You can simple stay in the house for a week, cooking having dinner together, etc.

At the end of the road we always remember our good moments and never the new TV that I bought in 1965.

My days in Kelleys Island

The graduation party was really good. My only simple mistake I didn’t have extra batteries for my camera with my so, I only took one picture.
Today is Sunday, and I have the feeling that I didn’t do anything all week. So I hope today when I finish this day I have different thought about that.

Graduation Party

Today I am going to a graduation party on Sandusky, Ohio. I never been in one American graduation’s party before, I am sure is going to be fun.
When we graduated from high school in Argentina we have some kind of graduation party, but the real party is that the whole class takes a trip for 10 days to another city. Here are some photos of Bariloche : http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=bariloche%2C%20argentina&w=all

Changing the Economics principles

Changing the Economics principles

Today we have 1 billion of the world population producing “stuff” to the rest of the world. Mmm? Let me re-phrase that: “ producing “stuff” to the east European markets, USA, Canada and I would said Australia.
This balance between high production in one end and high consumption at the other end works pretty well in economics. But my question here is “this type of system works, for the natural behaved of humans and the World as a planet?
I don’t know the answer to that question but I have some data that I think is proving it doesn’t work. USA has high indices of suicides and still racing. Depression pills are being sale as milk in developed countries. At the other side of the balance a guy working in a factory only takes 10 minutes to eat in shift that goes for more than 10 hours, and then he doesn’t have the right to choose how many children he wants to have. Let’s build more factory and make this guy happy is not the answer.
My idea is to change exchange process, (getting & producing stuff), to a new exchange process of “discover and learn”.
Here I show you how as a developed countries can still contributing with millions of dollars to producer countries.

Instead of getting a T car lets take our holidays in Asia and spend $20 thousands dollars having fun over there. Think with that kind of money you can stay in Asia very comfortable for around 3 month learning that wonderful culture.

This kind of re-structure organized by the governments can take at least 100 years. Executed by the private sector, guy like you and I, it can take 10 years to start notice the change. Maybe then, governments instead of sending billions of dollars to relief campaign can start supporting this new way of economics by tax benefits for companies and individuals that are spending their money in those countries without getting “stuff”.

We already have a lot of “stuff”. A sensor located in a rear bumper of a car seams pretty handy, but how many people died by rear bumper? Let used our great mind developing for the health system, international law systems, instead of just a simple car. Yes I am waiting to see and get the cars that are able to fly.

Think about this new world:

• Reduce the production of “stuff” by half will solve a lot of the problems of global warming.
• Companies and individuals will stop spending energy in those developed countries at least 10%, (because they would be traveling)
• The soul and mind of humans would be enriching by the cultural exchange.
• Clear minds can produce more new ideas to make us live longer in this beautiful world call Earth.
